

Only Nuclear Battery provides additional Energy each turn at no extra cost, making it a fantastic addition to any Defect deck.

For example, Busted Crown reduces card reward choices with Coffee Dripper and Fusion Hammer, players can’t rest or smith Ectoplasm and Sozu mean players can no longer gain gold or potions Runic Dome and Velvet Choker make it harder to play effectively Philosopher’s Stone strengthens enemies.

Call me with up to 10 name, where name is a card, relic, event, or potion. Relics that provide Energy each turn are well-known as powerful, but they all come with a drawback. You can now remove cards from your deck at Rest Sites. This relic is particularly strong compared to its counterparts. This makes Nuclear Battery a constant source of guaranteed Energy in decks that don't involve continuous orb evocation, but it also provides a fantastic jump boost for Orb Evocation decks. Plasma generates 1 Energy passively every turn, or 2 when evoked. Nuclear Battery is a boss relic that channels one Plasma at the start of combat. Nuclear Battery is arguably the best relic pick for any Defect run. Static Discharge, on the other hand, does, which allows players to convert minor incoming damage into outgoing damage without worrying about losing health.

Unfortunately, most effects that trigger upon taking damage wouldn’t do so with this combo. Tungsten Rod activates after Torii, reducing the 1 damage taken to 0, effectively negating any hit that would deal 5 or less damage. This card is very powerful when Upgraded, especially in builds that use Capacitor or Runic Capacitor to add. When Upgraded, it Evokes the Orbs instead of simply removing them-the difference is that the Orbs triggers their effects. This combo relies on the Torii relic, which causes any attack dealing 5 or less damage to deal 1 instead. It removes all Orbs, granting the player 1 Energy and drawing 1 card for each Orb removed this way.

Tungsten Rod is a rare relic that reduces any unblocked damage the player would receive by 1, which works particularly well against enemies with lots of small attacks ( including the final boss).

It's clearly not as universal as Fusion Hammer, Snecko Eye, Runic Pyramid or any class-specific Energy relic, but it's also less restrictive than Ectoplasm (in terms of long-term power) and Velvet Choker (in most decks), putting it right around Coffee Dripper and arguably Sozu in terms of being applicable to your run at the time it's offered.Another relic professional slayers will recognize immediately, Tungsten Rod can prevent much damage throughout a run. It's impossible to evaluate accurately in a vacuum, but I would put Collar solidly in the middle of the Boss relic pool. Maybe you have great hallway cards like Backstab, Dramatic Entrance, Mind Blast or Bottled Flame->Whirlwind, but you lack scaling to kill bosses and elites in which case Collar could be the correct choice. It really does depend on what your deck already has, though. That said, if your pathing puts you in front of a ton of hallways, taking Collar can leave you high and dry for long sections of Act 2, which as many have noted can outright kill your run. Elites aren't -that- much harder than hallways in Act 2 and beyond, and as such it's generally beneficial to try and hit as many of them as possible since you lose only slightly more HP in an elite fight than a hallway but with much better rewards.
